Background

During the past 15 years, the number of charter schools has grown from zero to more than 3,600 schools in 41 states. More and more parents are finding that they have charter school options that they can choose for their children. At the same time, charter schools continue to be controversial. Researchers and advocates continue to debate charter school performance, impact on nearby public schools and funding.

The purpose of CharterSchoolRatings.org is to help parents and members of the public to better understand the performance of charter schools, especially those in their communities. Use this site to find the answers to key questions such as:
